If you’re looking for higher performance when playing action games, or if you enjoy viewing video and animation on your PC, you should definitely upgrade to the latest version of DirectX. The latest versions offers faster frame rates for multiplayer games, as well as improved audio fidelity while displaying video and animation. The drivers also provide support for the latest generation of 3D-graphics acceleration hardware.

DirectX, of course, is Microsoft’s advanced suite of multimedia APIs (application programming interfaces), which lets developers write code for multimedia applications on any Windows PC, no matter what the hardware. The drivers provide a “hardware abstraction layer,” as Microsoft describes it, to allow software drivers to communicate between software and computer hardware.

Note: The DirectX will overwrite any earlier versions of the drivers, so if you had an earlier version of DirectX installed on your system, you will see little difference in available space on your hard drive following installation.
