Although Netscape has not had official support since 2008, people around the world still love using this program to search the internet. Netscape has several features that Internet Explorer does not offer, which makes the program still popular. You can get help and support for the program through the Netscape Community Forum.
AOL originally developed the Netscape software and it was the first program many people used to search the World Wide Web. AOL has now moved on to developing the Mozilla and Firefox programs, but the Netscape program has so many features you can add on that many web masters and internet engineers prefer to continue to work with Netscape.
Old-Version-Netscape
You can download the previous versions of Netscape, from the latest release of Netscape 9.0.0.6 English version for Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux, right through to the Netscape Navigator 4.78 English version. This version was suitable for the following computer operating systems:
  • AIX 4.1 and 4.2;
  • DEC Unix 4.0;
  • HP-UX 10.10, 10.20 and 11;
  • IRIX 6.5;
  • Intel Solaris 2.5.1;
  • Linux 2.2; and
  • Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.8.
Although the later versions of Netscape 9 and 8 were in English only, earlier versions had a global vision with the program available with other language interface and user systems. Versions 6 and 7, both of which are still available for downloads, had versions supporting: Japanese, German, French, and Spanish.
Chinese users can still download Netscape 7.0 to have an interface and search engine that has their own language. Versions of Netscape 6 and 7 also differentiated between English (UK) and English (Canada). This focus on translating the user interface into different languages and even versions of the same language set Netscape apart from its competition.
Version 8.0 is only available for Windows, but Netscape 9.0 became available for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux operating systems. Some of the earlier versions of Netscape were suitable for Mac PowerPC and this version of a Mac operating system is still popular with some Mac users. If you have a more unusual operating system on your computer, you will be able to download previous versions of the Netscape program to interface with your computer.
Netscape delivers fast internet search results and even though the manufacturer is no longer producing new versions of the program, downloading the older versions of Netscape makes sense. If you want an internet search engine that speaks your language or interfaces directly with your older style computer operating system without causing errors, try downloading Netscape.
