Google Chrome is a relatively new web browser to hit the internet market. Developed by Google Inc., Google Chrome intends to provide people with a simple and fast method of browsing the internet. First released as a beta version in September of 2008 and then as a stable version in December of 2008, Google Chrome has quickly gone on to capture between one and two percent of the web browser usage market, already surpassing platforms such as Opera and Netscape.
Google Chrome’s main selling point is its ability to condense everything into one simple format for easy viewing. For example, an address bar at the top of Chrome’s interface serves a variety of different purposes. Users can bookmark pages, search for items, learn about the security of a website, or use it simply to input the address of a website. This all-in-one feature is one of Chrome’s main attractions.

A special feature known as “Incognito Mode” allows users to privately visit websites without those sites appearing in their web history. This capability could be a useful trait for office workers, but it also could be risky for parents who want to keep track of what sites their children are visiting.
Google Chrome also includes a modern “New Tab” feature that displays preview images of the user’s most visited sites. This visually attractive element allows for quick access to commonly viewed sites as well as the ability to see three recent tabs that may have been closed by accident.
Since Google Chrome is a new entry into the web browsing market, firsthand use is the best way to explore its many facets and features. Newer versions of the program are released quite frequently as Google makes updates to the Chrome package.
