PHP is a scripting language that you can use to develop web sites. You can input PHP code into a web server to create web pages from almost any computer operating system. You can also use PHP as a command line interface in other graphical applications.
PHP originally stood for Personal Home Page and is now the PHP Hypertext Pre-processor. The hypertext pre-processor converts your script into HTML. Web developers will find it easy to use PHP because much of the syntax borrows language from C, Java, and Perl, which are familiar scripting programs. The goal of the scripting software is to allow web developers to write dynamic web pages quickly, and easily, with no problems.
You can install and run several versions of PHP at the same time. The latest version, PHP 5.2.9, is still under development. It may have some unidentified bugs that could cause your webpage to have some problems on completion. Many users prefer the previous versions of PHP 5, 4 or 3, although the designers are no longer issuing security updates for the older versions of 3 and 4.
The older version of PHP 3 is the first version to support multiple developers. Previous version PHP 4.0 has several upgrades including using an advanced two-stage parse / execute tag parsing system – the Zend engine. Version 5.0 released a new version of the Zend engine, and reintroduced the compiler variables that were popular in the now unsupported older versions up to 2.0.
Millions of servers with PHP installed host more than 20 million internet domains, so it is an extremely popular web design scripting program. Facebook, WIkipedia, Yahoo!, WordPress, and My Yearbook all use PHP.
You can use PHP in more than 50 supported languages. The program automatically detects your preferred language and converts your script to the HTML web pages.
You can download a version of PHP today and start building your web pages straight away. It is easy to install and the script is easy to learn and use. PHP is a good option for all web developers who want to create dynamic, effective, and user-friendly web pages.
