MSN Messenger is a Microsoft instant messaging program that is used to communicate with friends and family through the use of chat windows. It’s often referred to simply as MSN, or sometimes as Windows Messenger. The program shows you a list of all your friends who are signed in, or ‘online’, at the same time as you, so you can start conversations with individual contacts or groups of people. The program also gives you the ability to add new friends and block ones you don’t wish to communicate with.
Over the years, version releases of MSN Messenger have added new features and functionality, such as the ability to have voice conversations (VOIP), send files or play online games with your friends. MSN Messenger Version 7.0 (and higher) incorporated a video chat feature to be used with a webcam. Signing into MSN Messenger requires a Windows Live ID, which is usually just an email address. Once signed in, you are provided with one click access to your Hotmail email account.
